The Effectiveness of Video Marketing

Marketing is all about getting your brand or message out to a target audience through a variety of channels. One of the most effective channels available - particularly within the online realm - is video. Consider this - in 2009 an average American watched 153 hours of TV every month, 131 million viewers watched video on the internet, and spent about 3 hours in watching online videos per month.

YouTube is the most popular online video site and its demographics are impressive. People are watching 2 billion videos a day on YouTube and uploading hundreds of thousands of videos daily (actually, every minute, 24 hours of video is uploaded to YouTube!). YouTube's user base is broad in age range, 18-55, evenly divided between males and females, and spanning all geographies. Fifty-one percent of users go to YouTube weekly or more often, and 52 percent of 18-34 year-olds share videos often with friends and colleagues.

Why is video marketing so effective? It allows people to make a personal connection by providing a face and a voice to go with it. It is also a great medium through which to demonstrate the features or benefits of a product. The best videos are short - three minutes or less - and quickly and concisely communicate key points to the watcher.
